Kaseya Scripts :: More update and patch scripts please

Good morning

I remember a while ago seeing a post on here that a new script had been released which patched a vulnerability in Adobe Acrobat Reader. I also remember getting an email that said that the script had been added to the Kaseya script library

I'd just like to toss in my two cents that this to me seemed a very important value-add from CSD. That type of pro-active approach is what managed services is all about in the first place, and something I'd like to see more of if it's possible. Not just Acrobat updates, but Flash, Java, and any of the other common add-ins (maybe even Firefox). Many of our company's client computers are locked down, with users not having the ability to install software (or patches) and having these updates through Kaseya would be a huge time-saver for us.

As I said, just my two bits. YMMV.

(Mod - apologies if this is mis-categorized. Feel free to move)

Hi Venamore,

I see a space in the text in step 3: “/MacAddr/ trm02”. It’s between the / and the t. Removing that should fix it.

I haven't had any success with running this.

I have updated the machineid.groupid on step 3, and am running it on another machine on the LAN (have tried both the DC and another client) but it keeps failing on step 3 still.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Dillard,

The "Update Lists By Scan" option allows an agent to be scanned and any Windows performance counter definitions, service names, and event log categories found that are not already present on the Kaseya server to be added to the server and made globally available.

Because this option has global effect on the server, it is not made available to Kaseya customers in a hosted Kaseya environment.

Although this feature is not available to customers directly, their custom objects can still be added to the server and made available:

1. Custom performance counters / services:

Submit a request via a form available on the CSD website:

http://www.cloudservicesdepot.com/Monitor-Request

A request will be sent to CSD support, and the requested objects will be manually added to the Kaseya server and made accessible by the CSD staff.

2. Additional event log categories:

Please contact CSD support with the name of the agent that contains the event log categories not currently present on the Kaseya server and CSD will manually scan the agent, adding missing categories to the server.

I click on the "Monitor" tab like the help instructions say, and there is no option "Update Lists By Scan".

Here are Kaseya's instructions that I followed:

# Counters - If your monitoring set includes a counter that does not exist on a managed machine, the log displays Not Responding. You can troubleshoot the monitoring of counters for a specific machine in two ways:

* Use the Monitor > Update Lists By Scan page to scan for all monitor counters and services for that specific machine ID.

Kaseya Scripts :: Scan for Unauthorized DHCP Servers Script

Subject: Scan for Unauthorized DHCP Servers Script
Posted: Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:45 am (GMT -8)
Topic Replies: 0

This script will run scanDHCP.vbs on the agent that uses a Foundstone Inc. command line port scanner (ScanLine) to scan a given IP range for DHCP servers (port UDP 67).

It will record its findings in a log file, dhcp-result.txt, that is returned to Kaseya server and accessible via Get File. It will create a Windows application event log alert (that can be monitored for with Kaseya) if any non-white-listed DHCP servers are detected.

The range of IPs to scan as well as white-listed DHCP servers are supplied to the script via input.txt file in Step 3. Here are some input.txt examples:

Example 1:

Code:

192.168.1.100

Here only a single IP address is scanned with no white-listed DHCP servers provided

Example 2:

Code:

192.168.1.1-254
192.168.1.100,00-a2-b3-71-3c-aa

Here a range of 254 IPs is scanned with one white-listed DHCP server provided (notice IP,MAC)

Following the scan, the script will attempt to match white-listed DHCP server MAC address(es), provided in the input file (if any), with the MAC addresses for the same IPs obtained from the local ARP cache.

The a Windows event log entry with the following attributes will be generated upon detection of unauthorized DHCP servers:

Code:

Event Log: Application
Event Type: Error
Source: ScanDHCPScript
ID: 910

Kaseya Application Event alert can be easily set up to catch this event for alerting purposes.

VALID_ON_NO_MAC constant in the VBS script can be set to TRUE to treat cases where only an IP match could be made with the input file (a MAC address cannot be found in the ARP cache) as valid.

NOTE: DUE TO LIMITATONS OF SCANLINE, THIS SCRIPT WILL ONLY RUN CORRECTLY ON XP/2003 SYSTEMS, NOT VISTA/2008!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To use the script:

1. Edit it from Scripts tab, Public Scripts, Network Scripts, Scan for Unauthorized DHCP Servers and save as your own.

2. Create and upload input.txt file to the Kaseya Server that contains an IP range to scan on the first line and optionally white-listed DHCP servers on subsequent lines as IP,MAC pairs (see examples above)

3. Edit the script and modify Step 3 to reference the uploaded input.txt file

3. Create an Application Event alert in Kaseya to monitor for the above event.

SCRIPT: For those of you running your own Kaseya server, here is the script that you can cut, paste, save, and import. You will also need to download the attached scanDHCP.txt file, rename the extension to vbs, and upload to your server as a shared file. In addition, ScanLine (SL.EXE) needs to be obtained and likewise uploaded to the server as a shared file. You can obtain ScanLine here:

http://www.foundstone.com/us/resources/proddesc/scanline.htm

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Code:

Script Name: Scan for Unauthorized DHCP Servers
Script Description: This script will run scanDHCP.vbs on the agent that uses a CLI port scanner (ScanLine) to scan a given IP range for DHCP servers. It will record its findings in a log file (dhcp-result.txt) that is returned to Kaseya server and accessible via Get File. The range of IPs to scan as well as whitelisted DHCP servers are supplied to the script via input.txt file in Step 3. NOTE: DUE TO LIMITATONS OF SCANLINE, THIS SCRIPT WILL ONLY RUN CORRECTLY ON XP/2003 SYSTEMS, NOT VISTA/2008!

You can get the instance name from the system you wish to monitor by going into Performance Monitor locally and looking at the list of available instances for the given object/counter.

Hi

Apologies if this is in the wrong category, or has been answered elsewhere that I couldn't find...

Trying to build a monitor set for a client that monitors packet received errors on all network interfaces. The difficulty is that in the instance field, I only see a small list of NIC's that can be specified.

Does this matter or will the counter monitor all available NICs? If not, then how do I add my own NIC to the list to be monitored (a Broadcom 5708C)?

The Conficker virus has spread to many computers and is set to go off in the next few days. Cloud Services Depot has developed scripts that run Conficker removal tools from Eset, F-Tools, and Kapersky.
To find these scripts, look under the Anti-Malware folder.

Unfortunately this functionality is not directly present in the current version of Kaseya.

What you might be able to do though is, for a monitor set that alerts on high CPU for example, create a Kaseya script that executes something like "tasklist > cpu.txt", captures the contents of the file into a variable and sends it out in an email. Then, as part of alert options you set when you assign the monitor set, enable "Run Script" checkbox and select the Kaseya script for the configured agent.

What this will do is run your Kaseya script in response to a high CPU alarm being triggered, which will in turn email you a list of processes and their CPU times.

I was wondering if there was a way to have an alert show a snapshot of the resources being used?

Meaning if I get an alert about CPU usage is high tha I could also recieve a snap shot of the top 10 processes using the CPU.

I will give it a try... Most of our customers do not want to spend extra money on firewalls that will protect them properly, no matter how much we try to convince them it may save them $$$$ in the long run. No vision for IT...

Thanks

If you only want to block certain URLs, you might try checking the client's firewall router- some of them have that option. Of course that would affect everyone on the network, and it's not scriptable via K as far as I know. But it works.

Another option I just thought of- Untangle has a newer product called "Re-router" which is supposed to be free software that runs on any client PC inside a network of under 25 PCs, and includes many of their security services. I haven't tried it out yet, but you can find out more info at http://www.untangle.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=434&Itemid=1527

Hello,

I am looking for a way to be able to script the following:
- scan a target location and xcopy backup only those files that have changed within the last 2 weeks
- scan the backup above and delete files that have not changed in 2 weeks

So if scripted to run nightly, it would only keep a backup of those files that had a date/time stamp modified within the last 2 weeks. Does anyone know if this possible?

Thanks,
